Homewood sets June 22 public hearing on vacating 20-foot alley between 115 and 117 Morris/Morse Boulevard

The Homewood City Council on May 18 agreed to send petition 170526 to the council agenda to set a public hearing June 22 on vacating a platted 20-foot alley between 115 and 117 Morris/Morse Boulevard.

Mr. Pew presented the petition submitted by the abutting owners, David Platt and Julie Dameron, and staff showed two survey exhibits (each covering half the alley) explaining that the petitioners will combine the surveys into a single exhibit for the formal record. The petition states the proposed vacation would not deprive neighboring owners of reasonable ingress or egress.

Utilities submitted standard no-objection letters: Central Alabama Water and Spire had no objection; Alabama Power consented subject to reservation of its utility rights. Jefferson County, however, required that a 20-foot sanitary easement be established because an 8-inch county sanitary sewer runs in the alley — staff said the county's request is to preserve access to the sewer line.

Council noted they were sending the item forward partly because petitioners cited a financing timing constraint. No final action on vacating the alley was taken at pre-council; the council will consider the petition and public comment at the June 22 hearing.
