Second Lady Usha Vance announced her support for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and Blue Star Families as they launch the Blue Star Museums initiative, saying the program will provide cultural opportunities for military members and their families.
"What a privilege it is to support the NEA and Blue Star Families as they launch this exciting Blue Star Museums initiative," Vance said, calling the program a way "of saying thank you for all that you do." She said the initiative will offer "enriching cultural experiences for our brave military members and their families."
Vance framed the announcement with a personal anecdote about family visits to cultural sites. "Our family loves visiting museums, gardens, zoos, and aquariums. It is such a beautiful thing to see our children's faces light up as they explore these places," she said, using the example to underscore the program's family-oriented benefits.
In the remarks, Vance also promoted a summer reading challenge aimed at children. She said participants are asked to "read 12 books, write them down, and submit your reading log to me online." In return, she said, participants will receive "a prize, a certificate, and the chance to visit us here in Washington, DC."
The remarks combined a program announcement with outreach to military families and parents, highlighting cultural access and a family reading activity tied to the event. Vance closed by wishing families "a wonderful summer exploring and making memories."
