Committee of the Whole approves sewer rehabilitation, social worker services, traffic limit and vehicle purchase

At the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 18, Geneva staff presented and council approved several operational items affecting infrastructure, social services and fleet management.

The council authorized a contract with Hoare Construction for sanitary sewer rehabilitation not to exceed $280,000; staff told the committee five bids were received and some bid items may be removed to keep the project within budget. The measure passed unanimously.

Council also approved renewal of an agreement with the Association for Individual Development (AID) to provide on-call social worker services to the Geneva Police Department. Staff reported that AID supported 141 clients in fiscal year 2026 and that social workers are on call 24/7 and on site two days a week.

An ordinance was adopted amending Title 7 of the Geneva City Code to prohibit vehicles exceeding six tons on South 6th Street. Staff said the change responds to resident complaints and an investigation by public works and police; council members praised the systematic follow-up.

Finally, the council authorized the purchase of a 2026 Ford F-150 police responder truck, estimated at $71,098.88, via the state contract; staff said electric alternatives were not offered through the state contract and the truck replaces a 2013 vehicle.

All four items passed by recorded vote; staff will proceed with contract administration and implementation.
