Long Prairie‑Grey Eagle told it won 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant; district cautions no spending until contract executed

An administrator told the Long Prairie‑Grey Eagle School District board that the district’s application to the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers program was selected for funding.

The presenter said the district applied for $349,000 per year and that, after expected federal funding adjustments, the district should anticipate roughly $320,000 per year for up to six years — subject to final award letters and contract negotiation. The presenter emphasized that the district must complete a federal audit and should not incur any expenditures until the grant contract is fully executed: "Do not incur any expenditures until the grant contract is fully executed and any expenditure you might make prior to that will be your sole responsibility," the speaker told the board.

If the projection holds, the award would represent roughly $1.9–$2.0 million in federal funding over the term the presenter described and would allow the district to resume a range of after‑school and library programming previously supported by the grant. Administration said it will contact the grant administrator and the district’s finance officer to work through audit and contracting steps and will notify the board when site visits and contracting meetings are scheduled.
