The board on May 19 approved reduced rental rates and select waivers for recurring community uses of county park facilities and directed staff to tighten expectations about cleanup, deposits and cost recovery.
After hearing from senior‑services staff about recurring classes at Veterans Hall and from Meals on Wheels and volunteer groups, supervisors debated whether fee waivers should include an expectation of volunteer cleanup or a small monthly contribution to offset county staff time. The board set a reduced flat fee of $45 per month for the Senior Center’s recurring uses (motion carried). It approved a reduced $50 fee for the Rotary Club’s September rib cook‑off and the Sierra Baptist July 4 celebration, and retained a refundable deposit policy for activities likely to create cleanup costs. The Girl Scout troop’s monthly fee was reduced by 50% while the refundable cleaning deposit was retained.
Supervisors emphasized that groups who receive reduced fees should continue to provide insurance, arrange trash and porta‑potty service when required, and coordinate with General Services to avoid county overtime for opening/closing and cleanup. Several supervisors asked staff to develop a consistent waiver framework for future requests.
