The Morgan County board on May 18 voted 3–0 to accept the results of its sealed fall paving bids and recommended awarding contracts pending the superintendent’s final review.
Highway Superintendent Eddie reported bids were split into three groups to encourage competition and save money. Reported winning bids were: group one to Howard Companies for $654,940.60; group two to Milestone for $79,100.00; and group three to Howard Companies for $276,731.80, for a reported combined total of $1,640,772.55. Eddie said splitting the work saved approximately $10,000 compared with aggregating the work into a single contract and recommended awarding group one and group three to Howard and group two to Milestone, subject to final review of contractor calculations.
The contract completion timeline was raised: the superintendent stated a completion date in September (stated as "September of 26" in the packet), while one commissioner read "September 4," creating a discrepancy that staff said they would verify before final award. The board moved to accept the bids pending final approval and oversight by the superintendent; the motion passed by voice vote 3–0.
Eddie said the work will include paving multiple roads across the county; staff will confirm exact road lists, contractor math and a firm completion date before final contract execution.
