School committee asks administration to assess Project Transition Program and pathways to employment for students with disabilities

The Medford School Committee voted 7–0 to request a comprehensive assessment of the Project Transition Program that serves students ages 18–22 with disabilities.

Members Graham and Leady introduced the resolution, stressing evidence-based transition practices that emphasize community-based work experience as key to post‑school employment outcomes. The resolution asks the superintendent and administration to evaluate program effectiveness, pathways to paid competitive employment, individualized transition planning, placement tracking and family engagement, and to return recommendations — including any staffing or resource changes — by December 2026.

During public comment, Patricia Cherry of Medford urged immediate attention and stronger support, saying families and parents are "not very happy with the support" the program currently receives and asking the committee to prioritize resources.

Dr. Glucy (the superintendent) and staff agreed to undertake the review and noted some work was already planned by program staff. The committee’s motion passed by roll call, seven in the affirmative, zero in the negative.
