County staff briefed commissioners on recurring internet bandwidth problems at the EMS headquarters during severe weather events, saying the facility's current internet capacity cannot reliably support streaming public cameras and other emergency-management functions.
A staff member said they asked Brian to research options and had received a Mediacom proposal to increase bandwidth to 1 gigabit for $174.95 per month on a month-to-month basis so the county can change service later without penalty. The staff member said the upgrade should enable better streaming and redundancy for emergency operations.
A motion to execute the month-to-month service agreement with Mediacom for 1 Gbps at $174.95 per month was made, seconded and approved by the commission.
Next steps: staff will execute the agreement, schedule installation at the EMS headquarters and monitor performance during upcoming weather events.
