At its regular meeting the Jeannette City SD board recognized multiple students of the month across grade levels and honored several teachers, including Mrs. Lyn Gander, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Student awards cited classroom contributions and leadership; staff recognitions highlighted long service and program contributions.
Representatives from ESS, which supplies substitute teachers for the district, presented Taylor Parish with a 2025–26 county-level Outstanding Substitute certificate. Ashley Garrett of ESS introduced herself and Victoria Staff (identified in remarks as a Janette alumnus and ESS recruiter), thanked district staff and invited interested applicants to the ESS website.
Members of the superintendent's student advisory committee were thanked for policy work and event organization. Advisory students then presented a day-by-day account of a recent Costa Rica trip, describing visits to an elementary school, sustainable-living demonstrations, zipline and eco tours, snorkeling with sea turtles and a national park visit. Students emphasized cultural activities, environmental lessons and community service elements of the trip.
The board also introduced the incoming 2026–27 student advisory members (Lindsay Jordan, Elizabeth [as spoken], Sophia D., Natalie Kristoff, James among others) and summarized their club and leadership roles. The meeting closed after routine business and a motion to adjourn passed.
Next steps: student advisory members will participate in district events including a naming ceremony and graduation activities, and ESS will continue outreach for substitutes.
