Principal outlines end-of-year events, staffing gaps and new grading plans; ACT vendor to reissue online scores

Principal Ann told the Solon Springs School District Board on May 18 that the district is wrapping up the school year with graduation rehearsals and ceremony scheduled for the weekend, an Eagles Academy showcase and the athletic and co-curricular awards program on Wednesday at 2 p.m. She thanked staff for planning the sixth-grade Wolf Ridge trip and said the district has been meeting monthly with senior advisers to finalize graduation activities.

Ann said the district is finalizing elementary report cards and completing AGR end-of-year reporting ahead of a new superintendent’s arrival. She also noted one open special education teacher position and said staffing updates will continue as the district prepares for summer programs.

On curriculum, staff outlined plans to move toward standards-based grading for elementary report cards, which will present short narrative statements about proficiency (beginning, progressing, mastering) rather than simple percentages. The district aims to implement the revised report card format at the start of the 2026–27 school year.

Administration also reported that ACT informed districts it will reissue some online spring test scores after discovering a need to rerun or correct scores. The district said the vendor had not provided a technical cause at the time of the meeting and that it would notify the board when further information is available.

The principal closed by reminding the board that the student handbooks are scheduled to be finalized in July and that training and policy adjustments are underway in response to recent state legislation.
