Votes at a glance: superintendent review, restraint policy, student trip and committee business

The Town of North Brookfield School Committee recorded several formal actions at its May 18 meeting.

Superintendent evaluation: The committee voted to approve the 2024–25 superintendent annual review prepared by an evaluation subcommittee (reviewers: Matt Grant and Jane Grande). The evaluation concluded Superintendent Tim McCormack met five goals focusing on student learning, professional development, district improvement, pathway programming and the superintendent advisory board.

Policy JKAA (physical restraint/timeout): After a policy-subcommittee review, the committee adopted a revised policy intended to reduce use of timeout spaces, emphasize classroom de-escalation and require staff training in TCIS and safety-care de-escalation. The motion passed with one abstention.

Student council trip: The committee approved student-council executive-board members’ request to attend the National Student Council Vision conference June 21–24 at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., contingent on administration’s final approval of chaperone arrangements, funding and all student paperwork.

Other actions: The committee approved meeting minutes from April 27 and May 11 (with several abstentions on the April 27 minutes), confirmed subcommittee appointments (superintendent review, budget, policy, negotiation, buildings & grounds, curriculum) and scheduled the FY27 budget hearing for early June pending advertising timelines.
