The Director said the library will kick off its summer reading program next week with events on Wednesday and Saturday under the theme "unearth a story," a broadly interpreted dinosaur/digging motif for children, teens and adults.
The Director said the library will pilot ReaderZone, a state library reading-tracking app, and add a tutorial page so patrons who want to use the tool can learn it. "We're not going to ever require everybody to use it, but we'll offer it to people who want to use it," the Director said, and the board agreed the trial was reasonable within existing program budgets.
Staff updates included an upcoming puzzle swap and a virtual program about the Artemis II mission. The Director summarized Jean's Bookopoly wrap-up: "329 game boards were picked up, 147 kids completed the entire thing," demonstrating strong program engagement.
The Director also reported the library staffed a pop-up library at a First Friday event and checked out three books to existing patrons; board members discussed on-site card sign-up logistics and whether the online application process could be used.
The board did not take separate votes on programming items beyond approving the director's report; the Director said staff will continue outreach and return with any necessary follow-up.
