The Vernon Township Board of Education spent part of its May 21 meeting honoring staff and retirees. Superintendent Ebony DeMendez read resolutions recognizing the district’s nominees for governor’s educator of the year and educational services professionals of the year and invited honorees to receive certificates.
Named honorees included Lauren Elmo of Lounsbury Hollow and Douglas Miller of Vernon Township High School; multiple other educators and support professionals were acknowledged, including those unable to attend. The board also recognized staff reaching 25 years of service and read the names of 14 retirees whose service the district commended.
DeMendez said the recognitions “reflect the incredible dedication of the people who make our schools such a special place for students” and invited those present to refreshments following the meeting.
The actions were recorded as a resolution incorporated into the meeting minutes.
