Attorney Powers recommended the board pursue a request for proposals to retain a realtor to market and sell district properties, suggesting the Brevard County contract structure as a template and recommending a public work session to shape the RFP.
Powers said a strong RFP should define the scope (marketing and sale of district properties; assistance identifying compatible co-location or acquisition opportunities; general consulting) and include a modest monthly consultation allowance (for example, five hours free per month) with an hourly rate above that. He noted Brevard's commission structure (4.25% or 4% above certain thresholds) as an example.
Trustees generally supported the recommendation, asked for a work session with Mr. Collins (the district's RFP expert) to draft the procurement language, and suggested inviting city and county planning representatives so the RFP and future realtor work align with local redevelopment and comprehensive-plan objectives. Trustees also emphasized that bidders have experience with public-property sales and school properties specifically.
Next steps: staff will schedule a work session with procurement staff to craft RFP requirements and will consider city/county invitations so partners can articulate priorities to bidders. No procurement decision or contract award was made at the meeting.
