Council annexes 3.677 acres on Belmont/Bellen Road and assigns R‑1 zoning with airport overlay

The Idaho Falls City Council approved the annexation of approximately 3.677 acres along Bellen/Belmont Road on May 21, following a staff report that the owner requested annexation in order to obtain city water service.

The applicant, Dan Brunson, explained the annexation is intended to resolve well‑sharing and water access issues for the property owner and to enable city water connections. Community Development staff said the parcel is a flag‑shaped piece contiguous to city right‑of‑way and recommended a comprehensive plan designation of suburban with initial R‑1 single‑dwelling residential zoning and a controlled development airport overlay.

Staff noted the parcel was contiguous to city property to the south and that R‑1 zoning was consistent with projected growth to the north; the planning commission had previously recommended approval unanimously. Council approved ordinances for annexation and initial zoning under suspension of the rules and authorized the mayor to execute necessary documents.
