The Yamhill County Board of Commissioners voted May 21 to approve an updated intergovernmental agreement with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality to govern administration, permitting, inspection and enforcement of on-site wastewater treatment systems in the county through Dec. 31, 2035.
The board’s moderator said the county’s prior contract with DEQ was outdated and that DEQ required the update to clarify the agencies’ respective responsibilities. The board moved and approved the agreement without further discussion.
The action was taken as part of the meeting’s “other business” items. No public opposition was recorded at the time the board voted. The update will govern county and DEQ roles for the next decade-plus as local permitting and enforcement of septic and other on-site wastewater systems continues.
The board did not provide an itemized financial impact in the public discussion during the meeting; staff follow-up is expected if budgetary changes are necessary. The board’s motion passed by voice vote.
