Mayor Christina Fegazi told attendees the city has taken steps to expand shelter and housing capacity for people experiencing homelessness.
Fegazi said the Carroll and Henry Zider Navigation Center at Saint Mary's opened with 68 beds. She also said the city opened two housing projects — the Calaveras Quarters and Park Center Apartments — providing 110 new units for families, youth and veterans. The mayor added the city helped fund Gospel Center Rescue Mission's latest project to add an additional 110 beds with private showers and laundry.
"When I ran for mayor, I made a commitment to the people of Stockton that city hall would get back to the basics," Fegazi said, framing homelessness response as part of basic services that must be delivered with urgency and humanity.
The mayor characterized the city's approach as aligning departments and building systems to deliver lasting results rather than one-off announcements. She noted some constituent requests are pending resolution because they fall under county, state or federal responsibility.
Fegazi closed the housing section by saying work remains and that the city will continue aligning resources with partners to expand capacity and services for people in need.
