Andrea Marisotis Snow told the Senate Education Committee on March 25 that her experience in legal and government affairs at Pima Medical Institute positions her to help balance institutional growth with compliance and student protections on the State Board for Private Postsecondary Education.
"As a servant leader and recognized subject matter expert in private postsecondary education, I am dedicated to leveraging my expertise to benefit the state of Arizona," Snow said during her nomination hearing. She said her role as chief legal and government affairs officer has given her a deep understanding of the regulatory framework that governs private postsecondary institutions, including licensing responsibilities and the student tuition recovery fund.
Why it matters: The State Board for Private Postsecondary Education licenses and regulates private schools that offer vocational or degree programs in Arizona and administers the student tuition recovery fund, which compensates students who suffer monetary harm when an institution closes.
Snow said she would guide the board through application reviews, complaint investigations and evolving legislative changes to mitigate risk and safeguard student interests. Committee members offered praise and, after a motion to recommend, the committee recorded 6 ayes, 0 nays and recommended her confirmation to the full Senate.
The committee concluded its agenda and adjourned; the full Senate will consider the nomination at a later date.
