Intern research highlights redevelopment opportunities as EDA notes strong turnout at Business Summit

Kyle Rosner introduced a redevelopment-properties agenda item based on internship research. Sarah Showalter, an intern, presented case studies from other localities that illustrated successful redevelopment of neglected properties and suggested several local parcels that could be candidates for EDA-led redevelopment or private redevelopment.

The Authority responded positively to Showalter’s research and presentation. Members indicated the work was useful background for potential future projects; no formal action was taken at this meeting.

Rosner also provided a recap of the Botetourt Business Summit, reporting attendance of more than 70 people and noting a presentation by Jason El Koubi, CEO of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, who engaged with local businesses including several described as the County’s “Corporate Family.” Rosner said staff will coordinate marketing and outreach following the summit.
