Switzerland County commissioners approve backfill appointment in 2–1 vote; routine minutes and claims approved

The Switzerland County Board of Commissioners voted 2–1 to approve a backfill appointment for an individual identified in the minutes as "Dawn," with Commissioner Ryan Harison moving for approval, Joe Bennett seconding and Commissioner Jamie Peters voting against the motion.

Earlier in the meeting the board unanimously approved minutes from April 17 and April 20, 2026, and approved claims as presented. Highway Superintendent Dusty Hunt reported crews are cleaning up after heavy rains, hauling rock to restock supplies, mowing roadsides, moving election equipment, and that the pothole machine has begun patching. Hunt said two open highway positions have been filled and that Truck #13 is having mechanical problems and will go to "Big Rig" for repairs.

Commissioner Jamie Peters noted property assessment notices had been mailed to residents; county attorney Garrett Bascom advised the commissioners that lowering tax rates is limited by the assessor's process and that appeal forms are available from the assessor. With no further business, the board adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
