Story City council approves $2.7 million sewer bond, sets budget hearing and clears series of routine measures

The Story City Council on Monday approved Resolution No. 26-43 authorizing the issuance of $2.7 million in General Obligation Sewer Improvement Bonds, Series 2026A, and the accompanying disbursement agreement and tax levy to repay the bonds. The resolution passed unanimously (Aye: Ostrem, Phillips, Solberg, O'Connor, Abrams).

Council also approved Resolution No. 26-44, authorizing specified fund transfers in the fiscal year 2025-26 budget, and Resolution No. 26-45, which sets a public hearing on a proposed FY2025-26 budget amendment for 6:00 p.m. at City Hall on Tuesday, June 2, 2026; both motions passed 5-0.

Other formal actions taken by the council during the meeting included unanimous approval of a streets sealcoating contract quote from Manatts (motion by Solberg, seconded by Abrams); a street-closure permit for the GCC "Sweet Summertime Soirée" on Park Ave for June 23, 2026 (motion by Phillips, seconded by Abrams); approval of a customer sewer-bill reduction request for Elaine Lovig of 109 Elm Ave (motion by Abrams, seconded by O'Connor); and a change to council meeting dates for June, July and August to the first and third Tuesdays (motion by O'Connor, seconded by Ostrem). The council also approved bills and claims as presented (motion by Phillips, seconded by Solberg). All recorded votes on these items were unanimous (5-0) as reflected in the meeting minutes.

The bond authorization will allow the city to fund planned sewer improvements with repayment secured by a tax levy, as stated in the resolution language presented to the council. The council set the public hearing on the proposed budget amendment to permit public comment and final adjustments before adoption.

With no further business, Mayor Mike Jensen adjourned the meeting at 6:41 p.m. The council's next scheduled public hearing on the budget amendment is June 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.
