City staff and community organizers briefed the Story City Council on several items related to summer events and operations during the May 18 meeting. Parks and Recreation Superintendent Joe Lucas outlined plans for the summer pool season and noted staff are troubleshooting water and flushing problems in newly installed restrooms at park facilities.
Representatives Nicole Engelhardt and Shanon McKinley from GCC provided a schedule update for Scandinavian Days and requested additional volunteers; McKinley also requested a street closure on Park Ave for the GCC "Sweet Summertime Soirée" on June 23. The council approved the closure unanimously (motion by Phillips, seconded by Abrams).
Streets Superintendent Mike Wright described the streets planned for sealcoating and emphasized cost and time savings of the recommended approach. Council approved funding for the quote from Manatts (motion by Solberg, seconded by Abrams), authorizing staff to proceed with contracting and scheduling.
The council also handled related routine business—approving a sewer-bill reduction request and adjusting summer meeting dates—before adjourning at 6:41 p.m.
