Miss Morton (speaker 15) moved a resolution asking Wayne County commissioners to conform the boundaries of the recently annexed Graham Farm site along Silver Road to eliminate split‑jurisdiction problems that left residents paying taxes to multiple entities while receiving inconsistent services.
"Conforming the boundaries will simplify that structure and adjust millage rates to 4.2 mills, resulting in an estimated overall property tax reduction of approximately 7.9% for Worcester Township properties and 3.7% for Wayne Township properties," Miss Morton said, describing a transition plan to compensate affected townships.
Council members moved to suspend the rules to allow third and final reading the same night. The clerk called the roll; every council member present voted yes and the resolution was adopted.
The resolution’s sponsors said the measure will clear up confusion for residents taxed in more than one jurisdiction and will preserve the city’s long‑term financial stability while including compensation to townships during a transition period.
Outcome: adopted on same night (motion to suspend rules passed; motion to adopt passed in roll call). The measure will be transmitted to Wayne County commissioners for boundary conforming action.
