Belgrade authorizes application for $450,000 LWCF grant to build Mayfair Meadows bike park

The Belgrade City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-8 authorizing the city to apply for Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) assistance to support the Mayfair Meadows bike park and empowering the city manager to sign the grant documents.

Staff filling in for the parks director told the council the city has received state pre-approval and is seeking a $450,000 federal grant that requires a 50% match. The proposed local match includes a $100,000 county open-lands grant, donations raised by the Belgrade Community Coalition, and planned contributions from the parks district’s capital improvement program. “We’ve already received pre approval which came through the state… The grant is going towards the Mayfair Meadows Bike Park,” staff said.

Phase 1 described to the council includes construction of a bike pump track, restroom facilities, parking, access routes and trail pathways, plus utilities, irrigation and fencing. Staff said many of the city’s required match commitments are in hand, including county and district funding pledges.

The council opened the item for public comment and received none before a motion to adopt the resolution was made and seconded. The resolution carried unanimously. Staff said the state forwards approved applications to the National Park Service to finalize LWCF grants and that the city manager is authorized to sign the required documents to complete the application process.

Next steps: staff will finalize the application paperwork and proceed with grant finalization through the state and National Park Service.
