Kalamazoo City — The Kalamazoo City Committee of the Whole voted unanimously on Monday, May 18, 2026, to enter a closed session and adjourned the public meeting without taking action.
Mayor Anderson opened the meeting in the commission chambers and told attendees, “Now the work of the Committee of the Whole this evening, is primarily a closed session.” The mayor said the body would not return from the closed session to take action at this Committee of the Whole meeting and that any resulting actions would be placed on a future regular agenda.
Clerk Boerling called the roll for attendance and for the subsequent vote. Commissioner Slaby moved to enter closed session; Vice Mayor Duncan seconded the motion. In a roll call vote, Commissioners Hoffman, Prado, Slaby, Wilson, Vice Mayor Duncan, Mayor Anderson and Commissioner Hess voted yes; the motion passed unanimously.
Before the motion, the mayor asked whether there were any communications from the city manager; the manager said there were none. The mayor opened and then closed public comment, saying no members of the public were present to speak.
With the motion carried, Mayor Anderson confirmed the committee would proceed to closed session and said, “So am I adjourning this meeting at this point then?” An attorney in the meeting replied affirmatively, and the Committee of the Whole was adjourned and moved into closed session.
Because the committee did not reconvene for public business, no formal actions beyond the vote to enter closed session were recorded; any substantive items that arise from the closed session will be placed on a future regular meeting agenda.
