Staff provided several status updates on events and park projects, including attendance numbers for recent movie-in-the-park nights, an upcoming dragon boat festival, new pontoon-boat rentals at Coppers Branch Park and park-construction work in progress.
Phil reported two movie-in-the-park events in May — Zootopia 2 (about 150 attendees) and How to Train Your Dragon (about 350 attendees) — and said the city will host a dragon-boat festival on June 27 at Coppers Branch Park to benefit Serve Denton. He also said staff had arranged for a private outfitter to provide pontoon-boat rentals at Coppers Branch Park in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and noted plans to explore additional rentals later.
Project updates included Village Park forest cleanup (final phase imminent), DoubleTree Ranch Park trellis renovation (about 60% complete) and disc golf tee-box digging at Coppers Branch pending basket and turf delivery. Phil also announced the splash pad at DoubleTree is scheduled to open Friday, May 2; staff confirmed regular maintenance-day closures remain in place. The board congratulated volunteers and staff involved in these projects.
