Town Council members heard updates on a delayed playground installation, coordinated community-event planning and reviewed meeting scheduling.
Staff member (speaker S4) told the council the holdup for the playground project was the manufacturer of the playground system and said a project manager and a new oversight person are coordinating to get the installation back on track. "The holdup was the manufacturer of the, the playground system itself," the staff member said.
Committee member (speaker S2) outlined plans for the bicycle-decorating contest and noted the Columbus Club had earmarked $250 as a sponsor. He described how sponsor funds are typically used and provided an example payout: when a sponsor contributes $100, the contest may distribute that as $60 for first place, $40 for second and $20 for third in a category. Members discussed using Kiwanis volunteers for judging, setting up a photo backdrop for winners, and linking the event to the town’s 250th-anniversary theme.
Council members also discussed recurring problems with commercial building materials and tires being left in public trash areas. Staff noted a previously distributed letter addressing the matter and suggested reissuing or updating the notice to discourage improper dumping and avoid placing that cleanup burden on municipal crews.
On scheduling, the Chair announced a housing board meeting set for May 19 and said a planning commission meeting may be held on May 20 if needed; City Hall will be closed Monday the 25th for Memorial Day with trash pick-up moved to Tuesday. Members discussed dates in June to hold the first reading of the budget and agreed to set a special-called meeting to meet advertising requirements ahead of the July 1 budget deadline. A planning commission and special-called meeting scheduling conversation settled on mid-June timing and a proposed meeting start time.
No formal votes on the playground contract or event funding were recorded during this meeting; the discussion produced direction for staff to continue coordination and to set meeting notices and advertising deadlines.
