Superintendent outlines evaluation timeline, MTSS and data tools, and climate-survey plans

At the May 14 meeting the superintendent reviewed the annual evaluation process and summarized district initiatives including data integration, student supports and staff climate work.

The superintendent said the evaluation consists of three parts — a student learning goal, professional practice goals and a summative rating aligned with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education rubric — and asked committee members to submit their individual evaluation forms by Wednesday, May 20 at 8:00 a.m. The evaluation subcommittee is scheduled to meet on May 21 to synthesize results and prepare a summary for committee action.

On programmatic work, the superintendent described progress integrating Panorama as a centralized data warehouse to support Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS): staff are using Panorama to carry intervention plans forward year-to-year, log behavioral incidents and store assessment and engagement data. The superintendent acknowledged technical challenges with integrating some external assessments but said the system has improved transition planning and data access for teams.

District safety and belonging efforts were highlighted: more staff have been trained on RULER protocols, the district is conducting all-hazard security drills in coordination with local fire, police and public works, and the hate-crimes prevention grant has supported work to standardize climate and culture surveys. The superintendent announced plans to issue a staff climate and culture survey at the end of the school year.

Other updates included digital safety presentations for students and families, ADL-aligned work designating schools as "No Place for Hate," continued supports for multilingual learners at kindergarten screening, and a multi-year curriculum review cycle with the aim of implementing a new middle school ELA curriculum by fall 2028. The superintendent offered to provide narrative materials and one-on-one meetings for committee members who have questions about goals or the evaluation materials.

The committee did not take final evaluative votes at the May 14 meeting; the superintendent provided instructions and materials and the evaluation subcommittee will compile member submissions before the next formal action.
