Commission approves $54.26 million supplemental to 2026 budget

Douglas County commissioners voted May 12 to approve a resolution supplementing the 2026 adopted budget by $54,260,127 to recognize new revenues, carry forward unspent project dollars, and appropriate spending authority for new initiatives.

Kim Hirs, presenting the supplemental, said the requested increases reflect timing adjustments and carry‑forwards, with larger items including roughly $8.4 million for information technology needs, about $2 million for wildfire mitigation grants, and $15.5 million for capital improvements in road and transportation funds. Hirs said $1.3 million of the amount is offset by new revenues and that only $1.44 million had not yet been formally approved by the board at the time of presentation.

With the supplemental, Hirs said the county’s amended 2026 budget will total $747,958,499. Commissioners described the action as a routine and appropriate accounting step to align incoming revenues with budget line items; a motion to approve the resolution passed by unanimous voice vote.

The resolution directs county finance staff to appropriate the identified revenues and carry‑forwards and to provide updated fund statements; commissioners thanked the finance and budgeting staff for their work.
