Dylan Machampo, the town’s deputy housing director, asked the Nantucket Historical Commission at the May 15 meeting for help naming buildings at Tacoma Green, a 64-unit rental development under construction near the Fairgrounds Road public-safety campus.
"When it's finished, it's gonna be 64 rental units," Machampo said, adding that 55 units would be income-restricted at about 30% of area median income, some units would be targeted at about 120% AMI, and nine would be market-rate. The project used two low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) awards and involved multiple development partners, Machampo said.
Holly shared a 1940 aerial photo showing the site’s connection to the former fairgrounds oval; commissioners suggested drawing on that history for building names and track-related terms tied to the site’s past. Commissioners asked about timeline; Machampo said construction is expected to finish around this time next year and asked for suggested names by the commission’s next meeting so the housing office and developer can consider them.
What happens next: staff and commissioners will compile a draft list of name suggestions for the developer and return the item to the next commission meeting for further discussion.
