NVCOG staff announced the council received a $200,000 Long Island Sound Ecosystem Grant to complete a regional stormwater retrofit assessment in priority remediation areas within Ansonia, Watertown, Waterbury, Naugatuck and Beacon Falls.
Staff said the assessment will develop a portfolio of green infrastructure designs intended to improve water quality in the Naugatuck River watershed by reducing pollutant loads carried by stormwater runoff. NVCOG will work with CT DEEP (transcript references to CTD/CTT reflect the state environmental agency) and participating municipalities to coordinate project timelines and outreach to local officials.
The grant will fund planning and design work; NVCOG described the award as an opportunity to build internal capacity for green‑infrastructure projects and to identify candidate remediation actions for future funding rounds. No formal action was required at the meeting.
