The Madison County Board of Elections met May 24, 2024, in the Board of Elections conference room and voted 5-0 to certify the results of the May 14, 2024 Second Primary. Secretary Dyatt Smathers called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.; Chair Jerry Wallin participated by telephone.
Director Jacob Ray presented the final Block Style canvass report and told the board that voter history reconciled exactly with ballots cast, both showing 221 ballots for the May 14 Second Primary. Ray also reviewed the hand-eye sample audit, which was completed by a bipartisan team and reported no discrepancies.
Brian Ball moved, and Ray Lewis seconded, to certify the May 14, 2024 Second Primary election results; the board approved the motion unanimously (5-0). Earlier in the meeting, Ball had moved and Lewis seconded approval of the meeting agenda, which the board also approved 5-0.
The board recessed at the direction of Secretary Smathers and reconvened at 12:00 p.m. Upon reconvening, Director Ray provided the final canvass documents for the official record, including: the Unity Block Style Canvass Report; the County Canvass Abstract with notarial seal and signatures; County Canvass Precinct and Contest Reports; the Election Day Absentee Abstract; and the Supplemental Absentee Abstract.
There were no incident reports submitted for the May 14 election, and no member reports or director’s report beyond the canvass materials. At 12:45 p.m. Brian Ball moved and Dyatt Smathers seconded to adjourn; the motion carried 5-0. The minutes record signatures for Chair Jerry Wallin and Secretary Dyatt Smathers.
The board’s certification completes the local canvass process for the May 14, 2024 Second Primary; the official canvass documents enumerated above were provided to the board and added to the record.
