Sustainability advisory board asks Palm Bay for modest monthly funding or donation channel

Doug Hook, speaking for the Palm Bay Sustainability Advisory Board during the public‑comment period, asked the council to let the advisory board become more action‑oriented by establishing either a modest recurring budget or a way to accept donations through the city.

"If we have a $4,000 project, that would be eight months of planning," Hook said, asking council to consider a modest allotment such as $500 per month or to create a donation channel similar to what parks and recreation uses so the advisory board can plan and fund volunteer projects.

Council members acknowledged the request and staff said the recreation program already leverages donations; they did not commit to a specific action at the workshop. Hook asked the council to keep the request in mind as staff finalize departmental proposals in June.
