Lubbock ISD swears in three trustees and elects Nancy Sharp board president

The Lubbock Independent School District Board of Trustees administered oaths of office and completed a reorganization at its May 14, 2026 meeting.

Presiding Judge Ben Webb administered the oath to Jason Ratliff (District 3). Ratliff told trustees he looked forward to stewarding district resources and strengthening the Coronado feeder pattern. Judge Philip Hayes administered the oath to James Perrin (District 4); Perrin thanked his family and said he was eager to serve. U.S. District Judge Wes Hendricks administered the oath to Mitzi Zigner (at-large), who said public education "is really about relationships" and pledged to advocate for students, teachers, paraprofessionals and staff.

After a short recess for photographs the board reconvened for a reorganization. Ron Garcia facilitated nominations for the officer slate. Trustees nominated Nancy Sharp for board president; the nomination received multiple seconds and was approved by a show of hands. Jason Ratliff was nominated and elected vice president. Trustees also nominated a secretary and approved the motion by show of hands; the transcript records the nomination as "La la Jabez" and later references "Chavez," producing an inconsistent record of the secretary’s name in the meeting transcript.

The board recessed into executive closed session under Texas Government Code Chapter 551 at 7:45 a.m. and reconvened at 8:44 a.m. The chair asked whether there were action items following closed session and none were reported; the meeting adjourned at 8:45 a.m.

What happens next: Trustees will continue regular duties under the new organization; the meeting record does not show any formal motions arising from closed session or a recorded follow-up related to the public-comment allegation about LCAD.
