The Millville City Council voted Dec. 31 to authorize special assessments to recover costs the city incurred to board and secure a property that burned on Sixth Street the prior month, council records show.
The resolution was introduced as agenda item one and described as a standard measure to allow the municipality to recover boarding-and-securing expenses through liens placed on affected properties rather than through immediate use of general-fund dollars. During discussion, a speaker explained the matter was routine, referenced calls received about the site and said the city would not be spending general funds for the work (costs would be recovered via assessment).
By roll call, Commissioners Hwitt and Kasaboot, Vice Mayor Watson and the mayor voted yes; Commissioner Suie was recorded as absent. The council approved the resolution among those present.
The council also approved routine bills and the minutes for Dec. 2 and Dec. 16, 2025 by roll call earlier in the meeting.
