Little Rock Marathon director reports participation growth, $8 million economic impact and continued donations to parks

Geneva Lamb, executive director of the Little Rock Marathon, briefed the Parks Commission on the race’s recent results and its relationship with the parks department.

Lamb said the event recorded a 4% increase in participation compared with the prior year and that the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau estimated the 2026 race generated roughly $8 million in economic impact for the region; she added the CVB figure equates to about $400,000 in tax revenue for the city. Lamb said the marathon operates as an enterprise account (not city‑funded), reported anticipated race income that will replenish reserves and said the organization has given nearly $2 million back to Little Rock parks and recreation since 2003.

Lamb told commissioners the race uses about 2,000 volunteers during race week, added that organizers expanded aid stations after reviewing course needs, and said the event earned a facility‑of‑merit recognition from NCS4 for its safety practices. She also said the event’s expo sold out for the first time since the COVID period and that the organization plans a 25th‑anniversary race next March.

Commissioners asked for additional financial detail about race expenses and net impact; Lamb said she will provide more detailed 2026 financials when vendors finalize paperwork. The commission thanked Lamb and marathon staff for their operational support, volunteer resources and donations that benefit city parks.
