Area Plan Commission votes to move regular meetings to 5 p.m., implementation set for May

The Vigo County Area Plan Commission voted to change its regular meeting start time from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the body decided after a discussion of security staffing and building traffic.

Commissioner Mark Clinkenber said the commission’s building security requested a change because closing procedures conflicted with a 6 p.m. start, and that the earlier time would reduce the need to bring security staff back to the building. “I think we were all in agreement that we would like to see [the] meeting time changed to 5:00 as opposed to six,” Clinkenber said.

Other commissioners raised concerns about petitioners and members who might have work conflicts and about congestion if meetings were moved earlier; members concluded staff would be flexible. The commission approved the motion to change the meeting time and agreed to delay implementation until May to allow time to update signage and public notices.

The change will apply to the commission’s regular monthly meeting date beginning in May; staff and commissioners said they will notify petitioners and update materials to avoid confusion.
