Wichita County commissioners on May 15 received a series of facility updates covering courthouse and annex renovations, ADA accessibility changes and logistics for surplus furniture.
Staff said HVAC projects are underway and bids are progressing; annex plumbing and flooring repairs are being completed, with the northwest corner of the courthouse recently redone and desert landscaping planned for a roof bed. "The lab restroom is not ADA compliant," one staff member said, and commissioners directed that the restroom configuration be changed and retiled to meet accessibility standards while flooring work is in progress.
The Burke Annex dirt work is expected to begin the following week, although staff noted there had been a delay in securing city permits. Commissioners also discussed large quantities of leftover furniture in annex hallways and options to redistribute, catalog, or dispose of items; staff flagged that some capital assets require formal disposal procedures before auction.
Election administrators asked for a larger space for early voting to improve flow and security; commissioners said a larger contiguous hallway or room would speed processing and reduce security bottlenecks. No formal approvals were made at the meeting; the court said surplus and auction procedures will be an item for the next court meeting.
