Westerly licensing board approves door‑to‑door solar permit for Ion Developer LLC

The Westerly Licensing Board approved a door‑to‑door sales permit for Ion Developer LLC after applicant Gabriel "Gabe" Davies described the company's operations and the board reviewed the town's newly enacted solicitation rules.

Davies told the board Ion has been in business since 2013 and said the company’s work in town involves education and initial assessments for solar programs. "Call me Gabe," he said while introducing himself, and described the work as "basically just getting people information and then an initial report on the solar programs, whatever people wanna do." Davies said crews would respect no‑trespassing and no‑soliciting signs and wear identifiable attire.

Mary, the town clerk, told the board this is the first application received since the town's no‑solicit ordinance took effect a few months ago and that the town maintains a no‑solicitation list on its website the applicant will receive once licensed. She also said the town issues a vendor tag that must be presented by solicitors and estimated the paperwork turnaround would take "a couple days" once the license is approved.

Board members moved and seconded the permit approval and carried the motion by voice vote. The clerk will issue the vendor tag and paperwork after the town completes processing.

The board’s discussion noted the ordinance’s existence, the availability of a no‑solicit signup, and standard vendor identification requirements.
