District staff and the board spent an extended portion of the facilities meeting on recurring heating and cooling complaints in classrooms, particularly in the second- and third-grade wing. Technicians reported that the building automation control device (the JACE) had rebooted and that the district engaged contractor NRG to verify set points, dampers and VAV boxes.
A member of the maintenance/operations team described how multiple classrooms are often served by a single rooftop unit and how individual VAV boxes and dampers can restrict airflow to a room if the unit is operating in the opposite mode. The board asked whether technicians could provide room-level temperature logs; staff said the NRG system can export rolling temperature histories and recommended delivering the data in raw CSV format so the board and staff can analyze mean, high and low temperatures for individual spaces over time.
NRG’s technician (Jason) told the board that after the reboot staff observed that some set points and dampers did not immediately return to expected settings and that NRG went onsite to confirm damper operation and VAV box functionality in affected rooms. Board members said they have seen classrooms that were very hot or very cold on different days and argued that data—not anecdote—should guide any reprogramming or capital recommendations.
The board directed staff to request two weeks (or more) of raw temperature data from NRG, distribute digital thermometers to classrooms for spot checks if needed, and consider whether a manual override interface or clearer daytime 'auto/manual' controls would help operations during spring transition weather. Staff said they would follow up with NRG and provide the requested CSV exports.
