Harahan council calls June 27 special election to renew five-mill police millage

The Harahan City Council on Feb. 26 voted to call a special election to renew a five-mill millage that funds the police department, setting the election for June 27.

Councilman Chadelane introduced Resolution 2026-3, which staff said is a renewal required every 10 years rather than a new tax. Council members discussed the process for submitting the resolution to the State Bond Commission and confirmed bond attorneys will handle required paperwork before the election is scheduled on the ballot.

Council members emphasized the millage’s role in supporting police services and said the city will provide informational materials to residents in advance of the election. The council approved the resolution by unanimous voice vote (five ayes, zero nays).
