Coffey County approves 2026 noxious-weeds management plan

The Coffey County Commission approved a 2026 management plan for noxious weeds covering county property and state-owned rights of way and said it will continue assisting landowners and other county departments with weed-control efforts.

A staff member asked the commission to consider the plan and “move to approve the 2026 management plan for noxious weeds in Coffey County and state-owned rights-of-way and to assist landowners in their weed-control efforts,” and a commissioner moved approval; another commissioner seconded. The Chair called for a voice vote and the motion was approved by voice; the meeting record does not include a numeric roll-call tally.

Commissioners also discussed equipment needs for the program. One commissioner noted the county appears “going to buy a new truck and sprayer” to support weed-control operations. The meeting did not record a separate formal procurement vote during the session.

The approval advances the county’s stated 2026 approach to invasive-plant control and signals continued collaboration between county departments and private landowners. The commission proceeded to other routine county business after the vote, including infrastructure and administrative updates.
