Yarmouth board grants special permit for 10x30 deck at 9 River Drive

The Yarmouth Board of Appeals on May 14 unanimously approved a special permit allowing a 10‑by‑30‑foot deck at 9 River Drive.

Petitioner James Hefner told the board the deck would extend a small front porch and wrap the sunroom on his corner lot. Hefner said a contractor had reviewed the plans with the building commissioner, and neighbors had not registered opposition.

Board members reviewed setback measurements for the corner lot, noted the applicant’s efforts to clarify frontage and setbacks, and characterized the request as reasonable for the neighborhood. Anthony made the motion to approve the special permit; John seconded and the board took a roll‑call vote in which every member voted in favor.

Chair Sean Igo explained post‑decision steps: the decision will be filed with the town clerk, a 20‑day technical appeal period follows, and once the decision is final the applicant will record the permit at the registry of deeds and then may pursue a building permit with the building department.
