Fairfield is building a 6,700-square-foot recreation center at Robbie Berberger Park, and the City Council approved the construction contract on Dec. 17, 2024, the city said in a video update.
The presenter, identified in the program as the episode narrator, said the center was designed "with one goal in mind, giving children, families, and residents of all ages a place to connect, play, and thrive." The project, the video said, sits on just over 4 acres adjacent to the linear park trail and is intended to strengthen Fairfield's network of parks and open spaces.
The facility will include space dedicated to early-childhood education and family resources through a partnership with First Five Solano, and it will offer recreational amenities including two multi-use soccer fields, basketball, volleyball, football and pickleball courts, a lighted running track and jogging trail, a children's playground, a multi-generational fitness space, open turf areas and a plaza for community gatherings.
The video reported the project is about 70% complete. Work under way includes pouring concrete seat walls, preparing for playground installation, and finishing interior and exterior building work. "We're on track to open in July 2026," the presenter said.
City officials described the project as an $18 million investment funded through park development impact fees, a state Proposition 68 grant and support from First Five Solano. The presenter noted the City Council's Dec. 17, 2024 approval of the construction contract but the video did not provide a recorded vote tally or mover/second details.
The city's video concluded by saying the recreation center aims to be a gathering place for Fairfield residents and directed viewers to the City of Fairfield's YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts for further updates.
