Hubbard County approves road, vehicle and sweeping contracts; township to share surfacing costs

County highway staff presented several routine maintenance and procurement items and the board approved each by voice vote.

For the '26 aggregate surfacing project' staff said the low bidder was Swenson Aggregate of Pine River and that the work will re‑gravel segments of County Roads 89, 90 and a portion of 91, and also cover county roads 121, 115, 109, 108 and 119. Staff said tonnage and scope are comparable to prior years and that Crowing Lake Township will fund about $100,000 of the work where it intersects township responsibilities.

The board also approved the purchase plan for an SUV to replace a staff vehicle and a pickup to rotate into the engineering fleet; commissioners discussed selecting a local vendor when quotes were close and approved using the local‑option vendor in that instance.

Finally, the board approved a single‑year street‑sweeping contract with Sweep Pros for $17,675 to sweep bridges and urban curb-and-gutter areas after winter.

Each item was described as routine maintenance funded within the highway department budget; staff provided a broader summer construction update including pavement rehab projects, bridge priority scheduling and grant‑funded striping work.
