At its May 14 meeting, the MSD Pike Township school board recognized district teachers of the year, classified employees of the year and honoring retirees.
Doctor Hunter led the recognition presentation, calling the honorees forward and noting impacts of long-serving staff. The board and audience applauded teachers and staff, and the district announced specific recipients from individual schools as presented in the meeting. The Pike Township Education Foundation reported classroom grants totaling $6,746, a $100 exceptional learner scholarship, and additional donations that include support for mascot costume purchases and food pantry contributions; an individual donor contributed $4,661.60 to cover a child-care voucher shortfall for specific elementary families, per the presentation.
Trustees also congratulated student teams and community volunteers during the 'Spotlight on Pike' segment, including a first-place finish for the Pike High School Unified track and field team and a water-safety event featuring USA Swimming national team member Maritza McClendon. The board closed recognitions and moved on to reports and action items.
