Monroeville seeks $645,625 state grant to revitalize Route 22 pedestrian corridor

Monroeville Council on May 12 approved a resolution requesting $645,625 from the Commonwealth Finance Authority to fund the Route 22 revitalization project, aimed at creating continuous, high‑quality pedestrian sidewalks and pathways between the Monroeville Convention Center and Murray Lane.

Mr. Graziani explained the effort has been under way for more than two years, citing constituent concerns about accessibility. "Since the Fourth of July parade, I guess two years ago, a young lady came up and said she couldn't even get her stroller," he said, noting that the grant application is the culmination of work to improve pedestrian access along the Route 22 corridor.

The resolution authorizes municipal staff to apply for the multimodal transportation fund grant through the Commonwealth Finance Authority in the amount specified. Council members moved and seconded the request and approved it by roll call.

Project documents included in the agenda describe the work as sidewalk and pathway construction to improve safety and connectivity near the Monroeville Convention Center and commercial corridor. Council did not detail matching funds or a construction schedule in the public discussion; the motion before the council authorized only the submission of the grant request and the municipality’s participation if the grant is awarded.
