Commission discusses downtown cleanup program and splitting applicant workshops

Commissioners discussed a proposed cleanup program in entertainment districts to address trash after large weekend events. Staff said they have been in contact with district court probation services about volunteer cleanup efforts; initial discussions did not require A&P approval and would instead be coordinated operationally.

Separately, the commission debated the scheduling of the annual A&P applicant workshop. Commissioners favored splitting the current long single workshop into two consecutive presentation days followed by a third day for funding votes. The change is intended to give each applicant fairer attention and avoid overlong single meetings; staff will check calendars and notify applicants that applications for 2027 funding are due by the end of August.

No formal vote was required to pursue scheduling changes; commissioners agreed in principle and directed staff to coordinate dates and notify regular applicants.
