The superintendent of San Antonio ISD praised the district's student advisory committee on its year-long work and summarized the students' recommendations to district leaders.
Students who served on the superintendent's student advisory committee presented several proposals including ways to foster a love of reading among younger students, expand hands-on STEM activities, and adopt robust plans at every high school to better prepare students for TSI and SAT exams. The superintendent said the recommendations came from the students' research and experience during the school year.
Beyond classroom-focused suggestions, the students urged measures to support campus staff: reducing paperwork, increasing professional development and mentoring opportunities, and creating more avenues for community members to volunteer or adopt a school. The superintendent described the district's intent to amplify student voices and to incorporate their ideas into future planning.
The remarks were delivered as part of a superintendent message reflecting on a recent closing banquet for the student advisory committee. No motions, votes, or formal board actions were recorded in the remarks.
