Board adopts dual-enrollment policy to expand college credit opportunities for students

The Santa Paula Unified School District board adopted board policy and administrative regulation BP/AR 6172.1 to expand and formalize concurrent and dual-enrollment offerings for district students.

Superintendent Weinstein and trustees discussed key operational points during the second reading: the policy creates a standardized process for site recommendations and parent consent, clarifies that college-level coursework may count toward high-school credit, and addresses part-time/full-time thresholds for college enrollment (trustees discussed 11'12-unit thresholds and local practice).

Trustees also asked about coordination with Ventura College for transcript sharing and how the district will handle eighth-graders seeking college coursework; staff confirmed eighth graders may be allowed under policy conditions. The board voted to adopt the BP/AR after motion, second and preferential/board votes.

Trustees praised the district's efforts to expand pathways, noted some prior "pitfalls" with dual enrollment partnerships and encouraged continued work to clarify agreements with Ventura College and other partners.
